If you're looking to refine your skills and learn from the best, our golf school offers the perfect blend of expert instruction and luxury accommodations. We're booking now for this exclusive golf school package that is offered for three separate sessions over the course of the year.

Pricing/Registration Information

This package is being offered for three distinct time periods. Includes a two-night stay, three days of instruction/play and access to Boar’s Head Golf Academy continuing education and videos (SubStack and CoachNow Academy). Limited to 12 people (6:1 instructor to student max).

  • Weekday Package 1: Monday, April 21 - Wednesday, April 23
  • Weekday Package 2: Tuesday, July 22 - Thursday, July 24
  • Weekday Package 3: Tuesday, Nov. 11 - Thursday, Nov. 13

Total for 1 person:

Day 1: Your Arrival Evening

Your first evening will start with a welcome social on Ridges putting course. The course is nearly one acre in size and conveniently located adjacent to Birdwood Bar & Grill offering an array of casual fare and festive drinks.

  • 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. - Ridges Putting course social (one complimentary drink is included per person)

Day 2: A Full Day of Golf

Enjoy a bright morning of instruction at the Birdwood practice facilities from Golf Digest as top instructors Rob Failes and Hunter Brown before testing your newfound skills in the afternoon on our Birdwood Championship course.

  • 8:50 a.m. - Check in at the golf shop
  • 8:55 a.m. - Drive in golf carts to UVA Practice Facility
  • 9 - 10:30 a.m. - Full Swing Evaluation and Concepts (UVA Practice Facility)
  • 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. - Short game (UVA Practice Facility)
  • 12 p.m. - Depart back to Birdwood Championship course (self-directed)
  • 12:30 p.m. - Play on Birdwood Championship course (self-directed)

Day 3: Practice, Play, and Departure

Take advantage of the state-of-the-art UVA Practice Facility for courses in putting and swing and individual analysis with the instructors before enjoying a self-directed round on The Nest par-3 course at your convenience. Rated by Golf Week as a top-40 short course in America, this quick and fun course is the perfect farewell to an excellent weekend of golf.

  • 8:25 a.m. - Meet at Birdwood, drive in golf carts to UVA Practice Facility
  • 8:30 - 10 a.m. - Putting concepts (UVA Short Game)
  • 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. - Full Swing Concepts and individual analysis (UVA Practice Facility)
  • 12 - 12:15 p.m. - Review of concepts learned and depart to Birdwood Clubhouse
  • 12:30 p.m. - Optional play on The Nest (self-directed)

Hunter Brown

PGA, Director of Instruction
Voted Golf Digest's 13th Best Teacher in Virginia

Hunter has been a PGA Professional since 2011. He graduated from Campbell University with a bachelor’s degree in business and has his Class A PGA license. He has taught at several top private clubs in the country and was previously the Lead Teaching Professional, at Biltmore Forest Country Club in Asheville, NC. Rob Failes

PGA, Player Development Leader
Voted Golf Digest's 4th Best Teacher in Virginia

Rob comes to Boar’s Head Resort from Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, NC, where for four years he was Lead Instructor for the Golf Academy. Rob holds a bachelor’s of science degree from Clemson University’s PGA Golf Management Program and is a certified PGA Professional (A6) Instructor. Additionally, Rob has served as a staff coach for Game Like Training Golf - a company dedicated to educating golfers and coaches on the science of learning and skill acquisition. To see Rob's entire bio, visit our Golf Academy page.

The Championship Course

Since the Davis Love III redesign in 2019, the championship course at Birdwood Golf has been consistently ranked as one of the top 18-hole courses in Virginia. The most recent accolade came from Golf Digest.

The Nest Par-3 Course

The Nest par-3 course features six unique holes and offers a round of golf in under an hour. This is the perfect locale for new players or more tenured golfers working to improve their short game. Most recently, The Nest was rated by Golfweek Magazine as one of the top short courses in America.
