Building a Better Future

Our ESG Journey Here at the Resort

At Boar’s Head Resort, we are very conscious and deliberate about our environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices. Surrounded by nature, our unique location offers both our guests and staff a meaningful connection with our natural surroundings.

Our mission is to meet the needs of today without compromising the well-being and opportunities of future generations. Below are just a few of the initiatives that shape our ESG strategy. We warmly invite our guests, local community and team members to join us on this epic journey toward a more sustainable and responsible future.

Straight to Table

Trout House Mushroom Cultivation

Dating back to the 1960s, the Trout House has a rich history as one of the oldest buildings on the property. The house was once stocked with trout so guests could bring down nets and fish for their dinner.

In 2018, with a conscious effort to provide a sustainable and hyper-local farming practice, it was transformed into a hydroponic garden that produced greens harvested for our on-property menus.  A scaled-down version of the hydroponic farm still thrives in The Mill Room kitchen, and the Trout House now focuses on mushroom cultivation. With cool temperatures and consistently high humidity, this is the ideal locale for mushroom production.

Situated just steps away from our marquee dining location, this initiative allows us to skip the farm and bring fare straight to table.

A Haven of Honey on the Hill

The Buzzing Beauties of Boar's Head

Bees are natural pollinators, playing a crucial role in food production worldwide by transferring pollen between plants. Our own hive came to us through a serendipitous discovery during the early stages of reconstructing the Birdwood Mansion on the western side of the resort. The construction crew unexpectedly found a large swarm nestled high atop the front side of the mansion. With careful tactics from a local pollinator company, we successfully relocated the bees to a quiet hillside on the property. Now thriving, the buzzing beauties of Boar’s Head contribute their honey, which our culinary team bottles for resale and incorporates into recipes at The Mill Room.

Eco-Conscious Amenities

A Commitment Sustainability and Passion for People

Boar’s Head is proud to partner with Natura Bissé, featuring their luxurious, eco-conscious bath amenities in all resort rooms. Natura Bissé combines effective, high-quality skincare with a commitment to sustainability—carefully sourcing materials, reducing packaging, and using recycled plastics to lessen environmental impact.

In addition, all profits from their amenities support the Ricardo Fisas Natura Bissé Foundation’s Oncology Aesthetics Program, which provides free skincare treatments to help cancer patients feel and look their best.
